In the modem selection screen of Compass, you will find a drop-down list of all recommended modems to use with Compass. Any of these modems would be a good choice. The limitation that requires the modems listed is in the control panel more than the software. Ademco began using Upload/download software in the mid ‘80s, when modems like the Hayes 1200 were state of the art. Our communication standards were created around modems that were available at the time. Newer internet-access modems are not designed to operate at the speeds and use the protocols that we use. In order to make the control panels communicate at faster baud rates requires a modem chip be added to the control panel. This would cause a significant price increase in the panel.
